Adults classes are held at:
1629 K Str., Suite 300, Washington DC 20006: we use several offices and a conference room (Schedule K street).
Or 5749 Governors Pond Circle, Alexandria, VA 22310: our teaching room is located in a townhouse. (Schedule Alexandria)

We choose quality over quantity: our classes have between 3 and 6 participants to make sure every one gets a lot of attention and progress better and faster.

For beginners with some knowledge who are looking for a personalized program in a small group setting (3 to 6 people).

Tuesdays 5:00-6:55pm (20 hours) on K street.
Starts Oct 10th and ends December 12th.

The prerequisites:
- Be able to present yourself/ a person
- Be able to ask simple questions: buy food, reserve a table, reserve a hotel room
- Understand and use numbers (over 1000)
- Be able to ask for and understand directions
- Grammar: simple verbs (etre, avoir, allerm verbs in er), feminine and masculine, the articles, place preposition

The curriculum will teach you to:
- Understand and use familiar expressions and basic phrases
- Make an appointment, accept or refuse an invitation
- Express one's likes and dislikes and talk about activities
- Use the near future
- Talk about simple events of the past

This class is in complete immersion.
You will need to practice at home, learn vocabulary and do some homework.

For complete beginners who are looking for a personalized program in a small group setting (3 to 6 people) that will teach them strong basis such as basics of French phonetics, how to deal with simple common situations/ conversations, essential verbs and structures.

Starts September 23rd and ends December 16th. No class October 7th, November 11th and 25th.

For Elementary (A2) students who want to train and perfect their conversation skills and fluidity of the language, while learning and reviewing grammar rules.

Talk about current topics, politics, travel, sport, art...and review some grammar points (for example: prepositions, pronouns, relatif pronouns, past tenses, simple future and conditional).

You can repeat this class several times, since we change the topics and materials every "season". The curriculum also varies according to the needs and of course the interests of the participants.

This class is for Elementary students (A2) who want to improve their grammar skills and better as well their written and oral skills.
Some people find grammar boring... At the French Academy we bring grammar into action with role playing, conversation and little games.

Let's talk about current events in French and improve our understanding and debating skills. This class has a new syllabus every period and a hands on curriculum to integrate better the participants' needs! You can repeat it several times until you feel stronger as a B1 or a B2 speaker.

Curriculum:
The ability to express what's happening in the world can really boost your confidence while traveling or for work.
The learning activities are adapted to the intermediate level (B1) or above and are designed to improve reading, speaking and listening skills.
We will work with newspapers such as Le Monde, international news (RFI, Le Monde Diplomatique, Jeune Afrique, TV5 monde), French TV News (TF1, Canal +) to explore how French-speaking media portray current events worldwide.

In this course you will:
- Improve your listening comprehension
- Give your opinion and interact on a theme-based sequence
- Learn about Francophone culture on current events
- Use a news report to improve key grammatical structures
- Learn new words and improve your writing skills

If you would like to discover traditions from interesting French speaking regions, this class is for you!
We will visit several places together (Alsace, Bretagne, South of France, Quebec, Les Antilles) and talk about food, drinks, tradition, art and share impressions with each other.

Perfect your French! (B2/C1)- Wed 7:35-9:05pm - $240 -Oct 4th to Nov 29th - K St

Workshop for advanced speakers (B2/C1) who would like to empower their French with better oral and writen skills. We will work on projects, talk about economical and professional topics, news, art, litterature. Our small group setting of people will alllow us to work more in detail on the speific needs of every student.

Starts on Wednesday October 4th and ends November 29th (no class Nov 22nd).
From 7:35 to 9:05pm.
1.5 hours per week. 12 hours of class over 8 weeks.
Tuition: $240.

- We prepare a new curriculum each "season", but it can change according to the dynamic and wishes of the group.
- Participants are expected to know most of the grammar rules, but we will review certain difficult aspects during the class if needed, for example: subjonctif, concordance des temps, le conditionnel, les connecteurs logiques, prepositions etc. We will address it a bit during the class, but if you need a grammar review, your tutor will also send you exercices and worksheets as homework.

For each topic, we will send you articles to read in advance, so you can be ready to discuss and debate the issues in class.

French Intermediate (A2/B1) Alexandria

Conversation and Grammar B1- Tuesday 6:30-8pm- $240- Sept 19th to Nov 7th - Alex

This class is for Intermediate students (B1) who want to improve their conversation skills and strenghthen at the same time some grammar points. We offer a new curriculum every quarter and we adapt it to the needs of the participants, so the class can be followed on a regular basis.

Starts on Tuesday Sept 19th and ends November 7th.

Each week we will talk about a new topic: news, travel, society, art, food etc..
After a short check up of the participants, we will work on main difficulties of the group, push every one to talk to better the fluidity of oral skills, but also make sure to work on some structures and explain/ train some grammar points according to the participants' needs. For example: bien ou bon? Imparfait ou passé composé? Pendant depuis ou pour? Indicatif ou subjonctif?
Actual topics will be discussed through articles or videos.
